About |
Plumb Press focuses on the visual arts. We like that our name needs to be seen to be understood. It is not Plum. We like the way books look, feel, and smell. We pay attention to typography, layout, paper, and binding. We include a colophon with most publications. We like books as books, and books as objects. We will publish that which is not ebookable.

Our History |
Our publishing history began with DryRun Press, Toronto, which was xerographically printed and a reference to the etymology of xerography (or xerophile or xerosis). Caledonia Press in Racine, Wisconsin, specialized in out-of-print XIXth century British literature, especially novels by Anthony Trollope; while Caledonia had a narrow focus, it had worldwide customers. Our customers included the Right Honorable Harold Macmillan, John Kenneth Galbraith, and Edward Gorey (who bough many copies of our titles and gave them away as gifts.) We’ve published books in cloth bags and books gather together as playing cards in a box, to be shuffled and read stochastically. We’ve published broadside and signed editions. We see some of these on the used book market and are astonished by how durable they are – and pricy. We will offer some of these older titles through Plumb Press. Additionally, in the past, we cataloged and distributed books by other publishers, something we will do again, when appropriate.

Submissions |
We generate most of our projects in-house, thus we do not encourage unsolicited manuscripts. If you want to contact us about a project, please do it through an email. Please note that we are unable to respond to all queries, and will only respond to proposals we find of interest. Please do not follow up on submission via phone or email. Do not send original material, as we cannot be responsible for it, and it will not be returned to you.
